There are 3 types of squirrels in CT, Gray, Red, and Flying squirrels.
The most common are the gray squirrels. They can be found in homes and other structures year round. Early through mid spring and late summer are when most squirrel problems occur. This is when squirrels move into homes to establish a nest, give birth and raise their young.
This behavior is the same with all 3 species of squirrels. The differences are when they are active and where they get into a structure.
Gray squirrels usually gain access near or above the roofline and are most active early morning and late afternoon.
Red squirrels have the same activity periods as gray squirrels but they normally enter a building through openings near the ground / foundation.
Flying squirrels are rarely seen because they are a nocturnal animal. They can be heard running around an attic almost all night, starting shortly after sunset until just before sunrise. Like gray squirrels, Flying squirrels will enter a structure through openings near the roof except they can use much smaller openings.
Nuisance Management has over 14 years experience finding all openings, successfully removing all squirrels (including young when present) and permanently sealing all openings.
